Former WBA skipper Fletcher 'ready for a new challenge' at Stoke

Stoke City new boy Darren Fletcher has stated that he is ready for the challenge ahead at the Britannia Stadium.

Having rejected a new contract offer from West Bromwich Albion, Fletcher has decided to make a switch to Stoke City and the experienced midfielder has signed a two-year contract with the Potters, with the option of a third available.

Fletcher has been speaking following the confirmation of his move to Stoke and the 33-year-old has expressed his excitement at the new challenge ahead at the Britannia Stadium.

The former Manchester United star told The Sentinel: "I'm really pleased to get it done so early in the summer. It makes it a lot easier to get it done and dusted. I'm ready for a new challenge and it's exciting times when you join a new club, even at the age of 33 you get a buzz.

"I don't feel 33. I've played 91 league games in a row, so I'm feeling fit and strong. I would like to think my colitis gave my joints and my muscles a rest when I was out and I feel like I've got plenty more years left in me.

"Stoke is a working-class area and while they appreciate talent, it's hard work and determination even more so. I've always tried to be a team player giving 100 per cent and intelligent fans have realised that."
