Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar has been released by Aston Villa but his preference is to remain in the English game with a move to former boss Martin O'Neill at Sunderland being muted. "I would like to stay in England," the 30 year old said. "There are always a lot of rumours about other teams and other countries.

"I love the football, I love the people and I love the country. My best option is to stay in this country.

"If I got a good project at a club then that would be the important thing for me."
