Former Villa boss Taylor backs McLaren to take over

Former Aston Villa manager Graham Taylor has reportedly given his backing for Steve McCLaren to take the job at Villa Park.

Former Aston Villa manager Graham Taylor has reportedly given his backing for Steve McCLaren to take the job at Villa Park.

A report in the Express and Star suggests that Taylor is keen to see the ex-England and FC Twente boss take the reins after Gerard Houllier departed the club during the week.

Along with McClaren, ex-Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, former Tottenham boss Martin Jol, recently-departed Fulham gaffer Mark Hughes and Wigan Athletic’s Roberto Martinez are being linked with the job but Taylor has stated that he feels the 2010 Dutch Eredivisie winning-manager would do a good job.

So far, Villa fans have voiced their disapproval at this recommendation.
