Young-pyo Lee played his final professional match on the weekend as Vancouver Whitecaps sent him off in style.
The 36-year old retiring South Korean defender wore the captain's armband as the Caps beat Colorado Rapids 3-0 at BC Place before being the subject of a rousing reception from his teammates, the coaching staff and the Vancouver faithful.
After the match, former PSV Eindhoven, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund full-back Lee was quick to thank the Canadian club where he has spent the past two seasons.
"So I have ended my career with a great team in Vancouver," he told reporters.
"I want to thank a lot of people, especially the fans. So the last two years, I never forget the last two years that this team, in my mind, is my team."
Whitecaps skipper Jay DeMerit was grateful for what Lee had done for the fledging MLS club and was delighted to see him retire a winner.
"Everything he does, he does with class and that filters down through this team and through this organization," said Jay DeMerit. "We're very lucky to have him and it was important for us as a team to send him off on the right note because he deserves it.
"It was great to see him with a smile on his face all day."
