Former Sunderland, Stoke striker Jones leaves Cardiff for Al Jazira

Cardiff City have loaned striker Kenwyne Jones to Abu Dhabi-based outfit Al Jazira Club.

The Daily Mail is reporting the 31-year-old former Stoke City, Southampton and Sunderland star has signed with the UAE club until the end of the current season.

It is understood Cardiff were happy to offload the Trinidad and Tobago international's £35,000 a week salary until his contract with the Welsh club runs out this summer.

Jones released a statement on his Facebook page confirming his time with Cardiff had come to an end.

"I am really appreciative of the opportunity to have worked with a great team at Cardiff, and to play in front of some of the most passionate fans in Wales," Jones said.

"This decision was made based on the opportunities presented to me. I would like to say thank you to the Bluebirds' staff and players - I wish them all success in their future endeavours.

"I also extend a special thank you to the amazing Bluebirds supporters. It has really been my absolute pleasure, and I will never forget you."
