Former Heart of Midlothian and Sunderland goalkeeper believes Paul Hartley should be given the job at Tynecastle.

The Jambos are in the hunt for a new manager after Paulo Sergio quit last week and Gordon feels that owner Vladimir Romanov could do a lot worse than appoint his former teammate Hartley who led Alloa Athletic to the Third Division title in his first season in management.

"I don't think going from the Third Division to the Premier is too big a jump. Craig Levein did something similar when he went from Cowdenbeath to the Hearts job, so it's possible," free agent Gordon said.

"The success Paul has had at that level will have built his confidence. It was always going to be difficult going from playing to management - but he now knows he can do it.

"Paul seems to have settled into it very quickly and given the chance, he could probably do it at a higher level as well."
