Reading have taken former defender Ibrahima Sonko on trial with a view to re-signing him. The 30-year-old Senegal international made 136 appearances for the Royals between 2004 and 2008 before joining Stoke who released him this summer.
Royals boss Brian McDermott told the club's official website: "I've spoken to Ibrahima and he's very keen to train with us so we will see where it leads us."
Sonko, who spent last season on loan at Portsmouth, will face Northampton in Saturday's friendly, while McDermott is hoping to sign another centre-back.
He said: "We're also working hard to conclude another deal that has been our focus for some time."
