Hull City captain Nicky Barmby has praised Jermain Defoe for the way he has reignited his career at Tottenham.
Barmby enjoyed six years at Tottenham and made over 100 appearances under Terry Venables and Ossie Ardiles.
He said: "Jermain is probably one of the top three finishers in the Premier League.
"The way he hits the ball is fantastic and his technique is superb.
"For me, the way Jermain has applied himself is impressive. He has worked hard in the summer and got stronger.
"He has not rested on his laurels. He wants to get better and that for me is fantastic. I am sure he is a cert for the World Cup if he does not get injured."
