Former Sports Minister Sir Hugh Robertson thinks that the appointment of David Gill as Britain's FIFA vice-president will help England's bid for another World Cup.
Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has previously said the 2026 World Cup is unlikely to be held in Europe, but Robertson is hopeful that a proposal to host the 2030 World Cup may be possible.
Ex-Manchester United director Gill was elected to the FIFA post earlier this week for a four-year term.
Robertson told Sky Sports News HQ: "David Gill is a very experienced football administrator. He's a man with an absolutely unimpeachable reputation. He did a fantastic job at Manchester United.
"If people like him, people of his quality are getting involved in FIFA that can only be for the good of the game but there's a lot more that needs to happen beyond David Gill's appointment before I think this country will be in a position to bid for another World Cup again.
"And we should be bidding for World Cups, those sorts of competitions should be coming to nations like us. It hasn't been here for a long time."
Robertson was a part of the bidding team when England lost out to Russia for the 2018 event.
