Former Socceroo appointed as Mariners assistant

Socceroo great Alex Tobin has been appointed as Assistant Coach of the Central Coast Mariners. Former assistant Ian Ferguson has been appointed Head Coach at new A-League club North Queensland FC hence the decision to bring in a replacement at the Mariners. Tobin now becomes assistant to Football Manager Lawrie McKinna after being involved at the club as Development Manager since the club's inception. He is also the club's National Youth League coach. The ex-Socceroo captain was thrilled with his new role and excited about the club's prospects. "It's great to have been given an opportunity to further my coaching experience with the Mariners, where I've enjoyed a little over three terrific years to date. "This new role won't differ too greatly from the one that I have fulfilled previously, but it is no less exciting to have been formally recognised in this fashion and I look forward to what is already shaping to be a successful campaign alongside Lawrie and an exceptional playing group that is as determined as I have seen them to win some silverware." Tobin was capped a record 113 times for the Socceroos and played over 500 domestic matches in Australia.
