Ex-Scotland international Archie Gemmill feels Derby County striker Kris Commons can be a national team regular if he moves to Glasgow.

The 27-year old has been scoring goals for fun in the English Championship this season and Gemmill, a Derby legend, says Commons can make it at the top level if he decides to join one of the Old Firm and even beyond.

"If he goes up to the SPL to play for Rangers or Celtic and keeps scoring goals he would be a regular in the Scotland squad," Gemill told the Scottish Sun.

"I don't know about his career at club level, but it would certainly benefit him playing for either of them in terms of his Scotland career.

"If he maintains his form he wouldn't have a problem getting into any team - the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are not beyond him.

"Kris is without question a gifted footballer, but you've got to want it week in, week out and the problems he has had are in his head.

"He was playing in Stoke City's first team as a youngster seven or eight years ago, but since he's been at Derby he's been hit and miss.

"If he could play consistently at the level he has been playing at over the last two or three months he would not have a problem being Scotland's first choice.

"And if he keeps up that form he would not be playing for Derby - he'd be playing for a bigger club.

"There is a question mark over him and until that question mark is eradicated I don't think you can say whether Kris can become a Scotland regular."
