Former San Jose, Colorado, Vancouver keeper Cannon ponders next move

Veteran goalkeeper Joe Cannon is set to soon head back to California to ponder the next phase of his extensive career.

The 39-year old is a free agent after coming out of contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps and although he would like to continue playing MLS, he knows his chances of finding a new club are not all that high.

"The odds go down a bit with pre-season starting," Cannon told the Vancouver Sun. "I used to think there was a 60 or 70 per cent chance (of signing with a new club) but now it's more like 30 or 40 per cent.

"We've had some bites but the reality is there isn't a strong market for a 39-year old goalie that didn't play too much last year."

On his three-year Whitecaps career, the former San Jose Earthquakes, Colorado Rapids and LA Galaxy gloveman added: "People treated me really well here and the fans knew who I was and they were really appreciative.

"I just wish we had done better on the field while I was here. That's the only thing I regret - not really winning. We had our chances with the Canadian championship but it didn't happen."
