Former Salzburg defender Sekagya impresses NYRB coach

New York Red Bulls defender Ibrahim Sekagya has been impressive since his move from Austrian sister club Red Bull Salzburg.

The 32-year old former Uganda international joined the Red Bulls in July and has since made three MLS appearances for the Eastern Conference's second-placed side.

New York head coach Mike Petke feels that Sekagya's positioning and versatility have been very positive and suggests he has been a mid-season brilliant addition to the roster.

"One thing we've loved about Ibrahim since he's been here is, obviously with his experience and where he's played, he reads the game incredibly well," said Petke.

"I think that with the ball at his feet it's a great feeling for us to have knowing that his capabilities of building out of the back, his vision, and we're very happy with the way he played.

"It's unfortunate that we had to play him out of position, even though I thought he did very well in the midfield, but now he's back to his more natural fit and as you guys know, even though we're towards the end of the season, now this brings another guy into the mix that could raise everyone's level as far as competition and as far as guys saying, 'Wow, there's a new guy coming to fold here and we all need to raise our game.'"
