Former Real Madrid captain Michel is emerging as favourite to succeed Julen Lopetegui as Spain coach.
Lopetegui will leave the job after the World Cup to take charge of Real Madrid.
Marca says the federation doesn't have too many options because under current rules the coach has to be Spanish and except for extreme circumstances, they cannot break a contract.
Among the possible candidates is Marcelino at Valencia but for this to happen it would be necessary for the coach to make himself available.
Rafa Benitez has always said that the national team job is one that interests him and he is a coach with plenty of experience and success having won 13 titles. He has one year left on his contract at Newcastle and could leave for six million euros
