Sydney FC marquee star Nick Carle says he has not given up on a future return to the Australian national team.
The 29-year old former Crystal Palace and Bristol City midfielder missed out on a call-up of 31 players for selection trials this week but after finding some form at club level, is determined to continue that and eventually win over Socceroos coach Holger Osieck.
"For me it's about playing well for Sydney FC,'' he said. ''We're only three games in, I'm going to put my head down and work hard, and we'll see what happens.
"Any player who doesn't have any ambitions of playing for the national team is crazy. Obviously I'd love to be back in the mould, but it's so important for me to do well for Sydney FC first.
"I've done the pre-season, and having done that this year has made a massive difference for me I'm feeling fit, and with the quality of players around me it's making it much easier.
"I want to play for the national team again, but all I can do is do the best I can. The rest is not up to me.''
Carle last played for Australia in the 2-2 draw with Kuwait in Asian Cup qualifying in January 2010 which was his 12th appearance in national team colours.
