Former Newcastle coach de Marigny heads move for coaches association

Head coach at the NSW Academy, Jean Paul de Marigny is leading the charge for a coaches association to be introduced in Australia.

The former Newcastle Jets coach believes the coaches of Australia need improved pay and conditions and hopes that Football Federation Australia backs the cause.

"There's definitely a groundswell, everyone's talking about it, everyone wants something put in place," said de Marigny.

"How we go about it, who picks up the ball and runs with it, that's the next step. There is so much to do, things like a minimum wage are long overdue.

"The FFA have been great in picking up the coaching education side of things, but it's time we stood up for ourselves. The players have got a voice; their union has done a brilliant job.

"Now the coaches need to be valued and respected, because at the end of the day it's a very tough job."
