Former MLS star Cunningham broadening his horizons in Guatemala

Major League Soccer's all-time leading goalscorer Jeff Cunningham admits it is nice to be broadening his horizons in Guatemala.

The 35-year old Jamaican-born former USA international joined CSD Comunicaciones in January and has already scored four goals in 10 appearances.

Cunningham, who starred for the likes of Columbus Crew, FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake during his North American career, is happy in Guatemala and feeling good after a solid start for the Liga Nacional leaders.

"I've always wanted to experience football abroad, so I jumped on this chance," Cunningham told MLSsoccer.com. "It's a chance to learn another language and experience another culture. It broadens my horizons.

"It's not a bad start because most of the time, a foreign player takes a bit of time to get adjusted to the life and to the football."

And Cunningham says it is important to give something back to the locals, particularly the youngsters who do not necessarily have the best living environment.

"I [only] kick a football, but my heart's big," he added. "I feel like there's a need here. Kids need football boots and proper fields to train on."
