Former manager favourite to rescue financially challenged Sheff Wed

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Chris Turner is brokering one of two takeover bids at Hillsborough as the club battle a winding-up order, reports the Daily Mail. The League One club are back in the High Court on Wednesday and racing the clock to bring in new owners.

Turner, who began his goalkeeping career with the Owls, has introduced his old club to a Scandinavian group who were foiled in an investment deal at Hartlepool during his final weeks as manager.

The one-time Manchester United keeper quit Victoria Park in disgust last month after a cash injection of more than £10m was blocked by Pool's board.

He then set up talks about diverting the money to Hillsborough where he stands to be become director of football if the bid succeeds.

Former West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson's failure to follow up an interest has made Turner's group favourites for a buy-out.
