Scotland legend Joe Jordan admits today's squad is highly unlikely to be competing at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Craig Levein's men sit bottom of Group A with just two points from four matches and will need a miracle if they are to progress through to Rio in less than two years.
Former Manchester United and Leeds United star Jordan, who is the only man to score in three consecutive World Cups for Scotland, is a fan of heading off to watch the finals of a summer but feels there is a void when Scotland are not playing.
"It's tough for everybody that Scotland aren't qualifying for tournaments. It's tough for me to see that," he said.
"Brazil is the one World Cup that Scotland wanted to qualify for. But all the countries in the group would have to slip up big time now.
"I go to watch World Cups on holiday even if Scotland aren't there. It's great to see a country during a World Cup.
"But it's 100 per cent better when you are following your country and watching games.
"I'd love to go to Brazil with Scotland because you would see the country, but you would see it with a purpose as well.
"I'm sure I'll see Scotland again at a World Cup finals. I'm sure we had the same conversations when there was a failure from 1958 until we qualified for the World Cup in 1974."
