Mike Phelan will act as Hull City caretaker manager for the beginning of the new Premier League season.
The Tigers still have not found a replacement for the departed Steve Bruce and with time running out ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, have made a decision to install Phelan in the role.
Sky Sports reports that Phelan, who has made no secret of his desire to take the job full-time, will be in charge of Hull for Saturday's season opener against reigning champions Leicester City at the KCOM Stadium.
Additionally, the Hull Daily Mail reports that Phelan and vice-chairman Ehab Allam held a two-hour meeting on Monday afternoon which came to the conclusion that the former Manchester United assistant will continue in the head coaching role for now.
The other names linked with the Hull job are Wales manager Chris Coleman and former West Ham United and Watford boss Gianfranco Zola.
