Former England, Manchester United and Middlesbrough defender Gary Pallister has been appointed operations director at Darlington, reports BBC Sport. In his new position, Pallister will have no say in football matters.
His role new is strictly commercial, with the aim of helping attract new sponsors and investors.
Chairman Raj Singh said: "Gary's stature in the game is well-known...[he] will certainly add clout in terms of credibility and profile."
Singh added: "It won't be a very hands-on role so fans shouldn't expect to see a great deal of him.
"He'll work for us on an as-and-when basis, meeting key clients or sponsors and such like."
Pallister has strong local links having been brought up in Stockton. He began his playing career with Middlesbrough and had a loan spell with Darlington in 1985, playing seven games for the Quakers.
