Gordon McQueen is of the belief that his old mate Joe Jordan can whip the Scotland national team back into shape.
The pair played together at both Leeds United and Manchester United in the 1970s and 1980s so McQueen is well-versed to suggest that Jordan, who most recently served as Harry Redknapp's assistant at Tottenham, is the man to breathe some life into the Scottish outfit after they sacked Craig Levein following a poor start to 2014 World Cup qualifying.
"I just feel Scotland is a bit serious now," former Scottish international McQueen told the Daily Record.
"I never see the players happy or enjoying their football. The whole thing is a bit stiff.
"I want to go gung-ho again, get forward and put a smile on players' faces. We don't do that anymore. It needs more than just smiling of course - but that would be a start.
"I'd put Joe in the job and he would need to lighten the mood in the camp. The players look like a bag of nerves and I'm sure he'd make them relax.
"Joe is the right age, he'd be popular with the Tartan Army and he has the experience after working for a few years with Harry Redknapp at Spurs.
"He was assistant at Celtic and managed Bristol City and Hearts. So he ticks the boxes.
"Joe has been first-team coach for a long time but I don't think there's a great deal of difference between that and management. He knows what Scotland is all about. He loves Scotland."
