Former Man City, Southampton striker Wright-Phillips urges NYRB to recover

Bradley Wright-Phillips says it is vital that New York Red Bulls recover quickly from their opening weekend defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps.

The 2013 MLS Supporters' Shield winners lost 4-1 at BC Place in the 2014 first kick on Saturday with Kenny Miller on target twice, and debutants Sebastian Fernandez and Pedro Morales also finding the back of the net.

Wright-Phillips, who scored a late consolation for New York, admitted it was a poor way to begin the season and implored the side to swiftly recoil when they host Colorado Rapids this weekend.

"Obviously not the result we were looking for," the former Manchester City, Southampton and Charlton Athletic striker told reporters.

"We have to bounce back, don't we? We have to correct our mistakes and bounce back.

"I didn't think they were any better than us. It was our mistakes that cost the goals."

New York will next meet the Rapids at Red Bull Arena on Saturday in the Denver club's first fixture of the 2014 campaign.
