Former Liverpool starlet Rizzo backs A-League foreigners

Perth Glory midfielder Nick Rizzo knows how hard it is to be in a foreign country where you can't communicate properly with staff and players. That's why he, along with Adriano Pellegrino, have taken on the task of assisting players in the Glory squad who only have a small grasp of the English language.

Brazilian midfielder Amaral in particular has been struggling with messages from coach Dave Mitchell but Rizzo has been helping bridge the language barrier.

"I think it's always difficult coming to another country," Rizzo told The West Australian.

"I spent 11 years in Europe and I went to a variety of different teams. I always got treated well by the players that were at the clubs so I try and do the same because, as I said, it's very difficult.

"You don't speak the language, the new place … it sometimes can be a bit of a culture shock."

Rizzo can speak fluent Italian which is useful for Amaral who learnt to speak the language whilst playing with Fiorentina in Italy but said the Brazilian ace was also improving with his English.

"It's getting a bit easier because he's starting to pick up a few words in English," Rizzo added.

"So it's just a matter of him talking to me or Adriano Pellegrino and us just relaying it to the coach or players.

"It hasn't really been a problem. Football you play with your feet, it's a universal language, so he hasn't been a problem mixing with us."
