Neil Mellor is believed to be the subject of interest from a trio of Championship clubs.
The 28-year old former Liverpool striker spent last season on loan to Sheffield Wednesday from Preston North End and is wanted by Lilywhites manager Phil Brown to lead the charge at Deepdale next season after their relegation to League One.
But reported interest from Southampton, Watford and Doncaster Rovers might make it worthwhile for him to return to England's second tier despite having a year to run on his Preston contract.
