Former Liverpool, Leeds winger Kewell lands Watford role

Watford have announced the appointment of Harry Kewell as the club's U21 coach.

The 36-year-old Australian has been given the role with the Premier League returnees to oversee the U21 side as they get set for the upcoming season in the Under-21 Professional Development League 2 South.

Former Leeds United and Liverpool winger Kewell, who is still rated by many as Australia's best ever player, will bring plenty of experience and nous to the Hornets' youth setup according to the Hertfordshire club's sporting director Luke Dowling.

“We are delighted that Harry has agreed to join us as our new Under-21 Coach," Dowling told the club's official website.

“Harry enjoyed an extremely successful career as a player, and he now has a proven track record when it comes to working with and nurturing gifted young footballers.

“His knowledge and experience will be of great benefit to the club's youth setup as a whole, and the talented players we have within our Under-21 group."

Following his career in England, Kewell moved to Turkey to join Galatasaray before returning to Australia where he joined A-League giants Melbourne Victory. A brief stint with Qatari outfit Al-Gharafa followed before he ended his career with Melbourne City (formerly known as the Heart).
