Roberto Donadoni says he achieved more than successor Marcello Lippi with Italy.
Donadoni was in charge from 2006 to 2008, when a second round exit from the European Championship on penalties to Spain prompted his sacking.
"All those who two years ago carried Lippi on their shoulders with pomp and circumstance, especially the media, are now tearing him down," Donadoni told Radio 2.
"Everyone should take a good look at themselves. There is an excessive tendency to forget and after a defeat many put up masks, even if it's not Carnival season."
