Former Italy boss Lippi insists job only half done for Guangzhou

Marcello Lippi was pleased with Guangzhou Evergrande's performance in their 2-0 Asian Champions League victory Lekhwiya on Wednesday night.

The Chinese Super League side defeated the Qatari outfit, managed by Belgian Eric Gerets, in the first leg of their two-legged quarter-final clash which satisfied the Italian World Cup winner to no end.

However, Lippi made it clear that Guangzhou's job of reaching the semi-final was only half done.

"It was a good match from our point of view even though we had a lot of chances and couldn't take more of them," said Lippi.

"I am happy but there is 180 minutes in this match so our goal is to go to Qatar and win.

"There is still a month wait until the second game so we will wait until then to think about what we will do."

Former PSV Eindhoven and Marseille boss Gerets added: "Marcello's side showed why they are the best in China so they are big favourites to go through, but I think we will see another Lekhwiya in a few weeks.

"We have nothing to lose and we will look to attack and try to create pressure from the first second and try and score a goal in the first half to make sure we have a chance in second half. It will be tough, but we will try our best."

In the other ACL quarter-finals, Kashiwa Reysol and Al Shabab drew 1-1 in Japan, Esteghlal beat Buriram United 1-0 and FC Seoul held Al Ahli to a 1-1 draw.
