Former England stopper named as USA goalkeeping coach

Ex-England custodian Chris Woods has been named as the United States' national team's goalkeeping coach. Woods took part in a US team training session on Monday afternoon, ahead of an exhibition game against Ecuador on 12 October.

The 51-year-old has will continue his coaching role at Everton whilst assisting the USA national team.

The former Norwich and Rangers stopper made 43 appearances for England between 1985 and 1993, making both his debut and his final appearance against the United States.

Woods has been appointed by new US manager Jurgen Klinsmann. US Soccer Federation spokesman Neil Buethe confirmed that a formal contract with Woods was still being worked on.
