Gary Smith led the Colorado Rapids to the 2010 MLS Cup so he is well-placed to make judgement on who will playoff for the 2013 version.

The Englishman offered his expertise to ProstAmerika regarding who he thinks will finish in the top five positions on both the Eastern and Western Conference tables.

Smith feels New York Red Bulls will salute in the East followed by Montreal Impact, Sporting Kansas City, Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire.

In the West, he sees Real Salt Lake ending the regular season on top in front of LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers and ex-club Colorado.

At present the top five of each conference look like this:

East
NYRB
Sporting KC
Montreal Impact
Houston Dynamo
New England Revolution
*Chicago Fire sit seventh

West
Seattle Sounders
RSL
Portland Timbers
LA Galaxy
Colorado Rapids
