Brighton & Hove Albion’s Liam Bridcutt is believed to be close to joining Sunderland.

The 24-year old England-born midfielder, who has played once for Scotland, is out of contract in the summer and could be on the move to the Stadium of Light in January.

Black Cats boss Gus Poyet is hoping to lure the Seagulls ace to Wearside after the pair worked together at the Amex Stadium prior to the Uruguayan’s departure at the end of last season.

Born in Reading, Bridcutt pledged his allegiance to Scotland through his Edinburgh-born grandfather and made his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Serbia in March.
