Former Chelsea striker Cascarino: Mourinho should play Remy alongside Diego Costa

Former striker Tony Cascarino has urged Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to spice things up by pairing Loic Remy with Diego Costa up front.

Throughout his managerial career, Mourinho has usually been inclined to play with a lone striker and the tactic has most certainly proven to be extremely effective.

Chelsea have enjoyed a successful campaign with Costa leading the attacking line on his own this season but with the Blues stuttering a bit recently, Cascarino has urged Mourinho to try experimenting with two strikers up front.

The Irishman stated his belief that Chelsea have not been as effective in breaking down teams with a lone striker in recent times and has advised Mourinho to give Remy a chance to start alongside 18-goal Costa.

Cascarino told talkSPORT: "I would love him [Mourinho] to say to Loic Remy to go and play up front with Diego Costa.

"Throw a spanner in the works and play someone alongside Costa because at the moment Chelsea are struggling to break down teams."

Chelsea moved six points clear at the top of the table after claiming a point against Southampton on Sunday and with the Blues having the luxury of an extra game in hand over second placed Manchester City, Jose Mourinho's men are overwhelming favourites to claim the title this season.

The Blues' title bid has been further boosted by the torrid run City are enduring at the moment and as a result, Cascarino has stated his belief that Chelsea can secure the title as early as next month when they square off against rivals Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in about a month.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Cascarino said: "For me they could secure the league against Manchester United on 18th April. They could have 12 points from their next four games."
