Former Benfica whizkid Edson Pires has revealed he had trials with Manchester City.

Edson is currently playing semi-pro with Pedras Salgadas after leaving Benfica over a contract dispute.

He told O Jogo: "As I did not sign (the Benfica contract), I left and went with an agent to England to try my luck at Manchester City.

"I did three practice sessions and in the end they said I was going to stay because the coach liked me. But the next day they were saying everything backwards.

"I think it was again because of money."
