Former Barcelona youth coach Gombau lands Adelaide United job

Adelaide United have confirmed the appointment of Josep Gombau as its new head coach.

The 36-year old Spaniard has departed Hong Kong champions Kitchee SC to take the reins for the Reds who had Michael Valkanis act as interim coach following the resignation of John Kosmina in January.

Gombau has a lot of experience coaching in Spain with a stint at Barcelona as an academy coach which included being technical director of the FCB Escola - an academy affiliated to the Blaugrana - in Barcelona, Dubai and Hong Kong.

An Adelaide statement read: "Gombau beat a quality field of applicants from Australia and abroad to lead Adelaide United into an exciting phase of its future."
