Former AZ, Genk striker Huysegems set to leave Wellington Phoenix

Stein Huysegems is set to depart Wellington Phoenix at the end of the current A-League season.

The Belgian striker, who has scored 10 goals this season, has been in negotiations with the New Zealand outfit regarding an extension on the current deal which expires at season's end.

Huysegems' Melbourne-based agent Dragan Jetvic told SBS that the former Lierse SK, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord, FC Twente and RacingGenk forward was looking likely to be on his way from Wellington when the 2013/14 campaign wraps up.

"It would be a shame to see Stein go because his performances and goalscoring prowess have helped lift the level of the competition this season," he said.

"He has 16 caps for his country and offers a degree of pedigree which has been there for all to see.

"But, in terms of negotiations, it's not looking too promising at the moment."

Huysegems joined the 'Nix from Lierse in September 2012 and has since scored 15 goals in just over 40 A-League appearances.
