Former Ajax star Winter to take reins at Toronto FC

Toronto FC have reportedly installed former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Aron Winter as their new head coach.

Reports emanating from Holland have suggested that Winter has signed a three-year deal to take over at Toronto, stepping in as the new technical director and coach.

It was believed that former Ipswich Town striker and England international Paul Mariner was set for the Toronto job but these latest reports, led by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, have Winter as the man to take the reins from caretaker coach Nick Dasovic.

Winter had an extensive career as a player in Europe, first with Ajax before having stints with Italian clubs Lazio and Inter Milan, and a short loan spell with Sparta Rotterdam upon his return to Ajax. He also represented the national team on more than 80 occasions.

Since his playing days, he has been an assistant coach with Ajax.
