Former Adelaide captain admits club need to exorcise their demons

After a record 6-0 defeat in the 2007 grand final, Adelaide United are desperate to win this year's verison against the same opponents, Melbourne Victory.

The Reds will have many demons going into the decider, what with the way the Victory have disposed of them recently and the fact they still have that ill-fated grand final result hanging over their heads.

The skipper on that day was Ross Aloisi and he admits the club needs to win to bounce back from that nightmare.

He also made comment on incidents involving him, during and after that match.

"That day changed my life," he said.

"Playing for the club I love, Adelaide is my hometown. It hurt.

"I made mistakes in that game (grand final)," he added.

"The biggest one was when I was sent off and then the comments I made after the game.

"I know the club has learnt from my mistakes.

"I took the responsibility for what happened being the captain and I think leading a team out on the field you're on the front line.

"My actions were poor on the day. "I apologised publicly and for me I couldn't apologise enough to the fans, because they make the club.

"We've copped it for the past two years over that loss.

"But that's now history and you'll find that if Adelaide wins that subject will hardly get brought up again."
