Forest deny Davies speculation will derail promotion bid

Nottingham Forest insist speculation over boss Billy Davies' future will not jeopardise their bid to reach the Premier League following a 3-0 victory over relegated Plymouth at the City Ground. The win means Forest will enjoy home advantage in the second leg of the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs and they can ensure they finish third with victory at Scunthorpe next week.

Manager Davies found himself linked with the Celtic job in midweek, prompting the Scot to insist he intends to remain at the City.

Assistant David Kelly, who faced the press after the game, said: "The speculation is not of his making and he can do nothing about it.

"He's an extremely good manager so why shouldn't he be coveted by other clubs. But that will not affect where he wants to get this club at the end of the season.

"The gaffer is concentrating solely on the job in hand and we have put ourselves in a really good position. We qualified comfortably for the play-offs and today's win makes sure that we will have the second leg of the semi final play-offs at home.

He added: "We were good value for the win against Plymouth and if we had been a bit more clinical we could have won by more goals. But it could have been a tricky game for us because they came here with their fate settled and were able to play with a lot of freedom."
