FOOTIE TWEETS: Stars shocked by McManaman tackle; Odemwingie goes du-lally; Hazard 'respects' Lamps

Brad Davies reviews an explosive weekend of English football on Twitter.

In a week that saw him recalled to the England squad after a near 2 year absence, as well as set up the goal that took his team 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League, there was only one way for Rio Ferdiand to celebrate - attend a One Direction concert.

Rio Ferdinand - "Just at the 1Direction concert...ear drums are struggling...never heard so much screaming!! AaaaaaaaAAhhhhhhh!!! Lads on fire!"

The central defender later retweeted an Instagram photo of band member Harry Styles decked out in a Manchester United shirt, complete with Ferdinand's name and number on the back.

United fans ought make the most of tweets like this from their future striker, Bruno Gomes as I'm sure they won't last when Sir Alex catches wind of them:

"Sunday's end best, for those who are already with one hand on the cup!! Ahahah #MUFC."

Having starred in Chelsea's outclassing of West Ham, Eden Hazard paid tribute to his goalscoring team mate, Frank Lampard who notched up a hugely impressive milestone against his former club:

"Respect MR Lampard. 200 goals juste respect. #respect et encore #respect." I think he might respect Frank, just quietly.

With an international break next weekend, Premier League players were already making their way to national team camps around the world.

Victor Moses - "Big win for us today we deserved the 3 points, crowd were great thanks for the support. Now off to Lagos for important world cup qualifier"

Shinji Kagawa - "I arrived at Qatar. Thank you for a lot of birthday commments!"

Much of the talk on Sunday evening was around a rather dodgy tackle from Wigan forward, Callum McManaman who to the disbelief of anyone with a pair of eyes, escaped any form of punishment after following through with a knee-high challenge on Masaido Haidara.

Norwich boy, Anthony Pilkington was screaming for justice - "Wow that's an horiffice tackle!! Has to be a straight red!! #Disgrace that should get a ban"

You know it can't have been good if hard man Robbie Savage is calling for bookings - "Wow bad tackle ! Red card not even a yellow !"

And there was no doubt in Gary Neville's mind - "Red!!"

Meanwhile, Peter Odemwingie's astonishing, public airing of his grievances with his situation at West Brom went into overdrive this morning. In a twitter rant that has lasted near on 24 hours, here are a few of the highlights so far:

"Keeping me on the bench now is worst than what they did on the 31st. New advisers told me to take say its all my fault cos its better or me."

"If they like they shouldn't even give me 10 mins to play. Threatening to ruin my career? Career I closed already last summer? No harm to me."

"Former Albion sporting director in the prescence of the new and Manager apologised to me in private. Publicly not good? Come under my cloud"

"Things have almost got back to normal till Peter spoilt it again. What's normal? We see things differently obviously."

"Was ready to give half of the contract there and earn less to make it happen. Forcing a move really is when u want to leave 4 free."

"Yes I am not at peace. Took steroid injections numerous times when team needed me back quick. Commitment still in doubt."

Quite incredible insight from the Nigerian.

Lastly, a year on from his on field collapse and near death experience during an FA Cup quarter-final, Fabrice Muamba gave us a reminder of the bigger picture:

"Last year today my world nearly ended today I'm alive and loving life. Thank you all for love and support. God bless you all. #stillstanding."
