FOOTIE TWEETS: Rooney retirement; Man Utd welcome back Ibra; Sterling red-card controversy; Arsenal Liverpool fallout

The past 7 days of chaos and delirium in football, told in 140 characters or less.

The week started with a sentimental blow for England, with Wayne Rooney announcing his retirement from international football.

Tributes for England's record goal scorer flowed in.

The fans were clearly excited to see one of the game's biggest characters return.

The draw for the Champions League also had the fans talking, with Tottenham fans particularly concerned by their group-mates, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

The players seemed less phased.

After some more midweek transfer insanity...

... it was finally time for some actual football, with controversy surrounding Raheem Sterling's late goal and red card.

Some fans may have taken it a bit far.

But overall it was the fantasy Pl players who suffered the most.

Elsewhere Manchester United continued their winning ways…

... but it was at Anfield where the real story was, as Arsenal were nowhere to be found in a 4-0 thumping.

No reason for concern for Arsenal apparently.

Some fans saw a bit of the biggest fight of the century in Everton's efforts...

... as Chelsea put their foot on the accelerator in their title challenge.

Elsewhere around the world, the wonderkids showed they're here to take over.

One of those tweets is not like the other...

But with all the craziness this week has seen, the biggest news came out of Melbourne Victory in Australia, with the biggest addition of all.

And that was your last 7 days in football (in 140 characters or less)
