FOOTIE TWEETS: Man Utd signing Bruno Gomes takes swipe at Man City; Stars praise Liverpool

Brad Davies reviews the weekend's Premier League action as seen by the game's stars on Twitter.

Before we move on and let poor old Pete Odemwingie attempt to get on with his football career with whichever club will let him in, it's important we pay respect to one final humorous tweet on the matter. Darron Gibson's effort in giving Carly Rae Jepson the Weird Al treatment with a parody of deadline day's most tweeted about story went a little something like this...

"New song by Odemwingie "Sign Me Maybe".."Hey I just drove here. And this is crazy. I'm in your car park. So sign me maybe"

Now to the actual football!

The return of Demba Ba to St James Park was the byline to the most anticipated of Saturday's matches between Newcastle and Chelsea. It turned out to be far from a happy occasion for the big Senegalese as Fabricio Coloccini gave him a true Newcastle welcome with a boot to the face that resulted in a broken nose. The injury forced Ba from the field and he was forced to watch on as his new team lost 3-2. Despite a tough day at the office he remained in positive spirits and demonstrated his class tweeting:

"I thanks all the real fans for the nice messages I recieve. And to all the haters.....,may god bless you!!! ;-) good night"

The early Sunday game saw Tottenham take all 3 points in a 1-0 win over West Brom who in a surprise to no one, left Peter Odemwingie out the squad. For Spurs, it was once again their terrific talisman, Gareth Bale who proved the matchwinner.

"Massive win for us today! Always nice to get the winner :p...brilliant support as always, heard you loud and clear"

Liverpool travelled to the Etihad in the late kickoff and while 2-2 was a good result they were disappointed not to get the win having lead late in the game through a vintage Steven Gerrard strike. In a match full of quality goals it was a magical piece of finishing from Sergio Aguero that rescued a point for City and got chins wagging.

Prolific tweeter Anthony Pilkington was impressed, also throwing in a big statement about the Liverpool captain: "Aguero what a finish that is! What a game this is! Steven Gerrard showing why he's the best all-round Midfielder the Prem has seen!!"

Rio Ferdinand enjoyed watching United's two fiercest rivals duke it out tweeting: "What a finish by Aguero. Lfc deserved to win that game....good game."

The man himself, Aguero was just happy to have proven his son correct: "My kid said to me today, "you'll score a goal for me today, won't you, daddy?" So today's goal is dedicated to him. Love you, Ben!"

Glen Johnson was disappointed but already looking forward to another big game: "Very unlucky today! I thought we deserved to win! Now lets go 49ers #Superbowl"

The final word today goes to 16 year old Brazilian, Bruno Gomes, who has obviously been practising his English ahead of a move to Manchester United in 2014. With the Red Devils having extended their lead at the summit to 9 points, the youngster is already doing his best to endear himself to the Old Trafford faithful:

"The little team of Manchester drew with Liverpool!!! Ahahahaha go go go big team of Manchester United."
