FOOTIE TWEETS: Man City players celebrate derby triumph; Ba urges old Toon pals to win own derby; Guzan hails Lowton wonder goal

Brad Davies reviews the weekend in England as seen on Twitter by the game's stars - including last night's Manchester derby.

As the season inches toward it's conclusion, the relegation and European dog-fights are heating up and tweets of encouragement between players and fans are flowing.

With the Canaries sharing the points with the Swans, goalscorer Robert Snodgrass knows despite Norwich's good season they aren't safe just yet: "Gutted we never got 3 points today the lads did great 2nd half and we will be giving everything until the end #keepbelieving #ncfc"

The excitement of a win that hoisted them out of the bottom 3, coupled with a Matt Lowton wonder striker was enough to set off Aston Villa keeper, Brad Guzan's lisp and stutter: "Yessss!!!! Massive 3 points and what a sttriiike! #utv fans were fantastic again! #onwardsandupwards."

After an excellent performance at White Hart Lane without Fellaini or Pienaar, Phil Neville was talking up Victor Anichebe's showing in the 2-2 with Spurs: "Great game of football from both teams - anichebe was unplayable at times and deserved a goal well done lads."

Mikel Arteta sent a shout out to the incredible recuperative powers of Barcelona defender Eric Abidal, making his first appearance since a liver transplant: "Really nice to watch Abidal playing football again. What a great example of courage, desire and passion!! You deserve the best!!"

It seems Demba Ba's season and a half on Tyneside wasn't long enough for him to learn how to spell the nickname of his former side's arch rival: "Congrat @YCabayeofficiel and my old boys for their important win aswel. Beat the mackens next week end! ;-)"

Manchester City's most notorious tweeters were in full voice after salvaging some pride with a 2-1 top of the table derby win at Old Trafford.

Pablo Zabaleta was beaming: "Very proud of our team!! This is the only thing I can say now and thanks so much to the @MCFC fans for the massive support tonight!!!"

As if being the grandson of Diego Maradona wasn't enough for Sergio Aguero's son Ben, now he's getting match winning derby goals dedicated to him: "Thrilled about the victory, and I'd like to especially dedicate my goal to my son Ben. C'mon @MCFC!! Fight til the end!!"

Vincent Kompany saw the lighter side of his O.G. against United and was doing his best to single handedly get his club's acronym trending with: "Can't stop scoring. Lol Phenomenal team performance! And to our fans..#MCFC #MCFC #MCFC #MCFC #MCFC #MCFC #MCFC!! :-)"

Lastly, this from ex-player and TV pundit, Chris Kamara who having taken in the derby was promptly brought back into line by his wife: "Game over, its a win for City. Now its time for my penance/community service! Watching Corrie with the Mrs ha ha." Sure, blame the Mrs, Kammy.
