FOOTIE TWEETS: Chelsea silence ex-Leeds stars in Cup

Brad Davies takes a look at how English football reacted during and after last night's much-anticipated Capital One Cup clash between Leeds United and Chelsea.

As Leeds United gave Chelsea an early scare by going a goal up through Luciano Becchio it was Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon showing his true colours are definitely white tweeting "Goal!!! Elland road is rocking!!!" He was strangely quiet from that point on though as his London rivals put five past United in the second half.

Meanwhile in an armchair somewhere in southern France Joey Barton's mind went places only Barton's mind ever would tweeting "Is it just me or does El-Hadj Diouf look a bit like a cartoon dinosaur?" The response from the online community predictably quick to use the comment as an excuse to abuse him.

Having no doubt also picked up many a French fashion tip in his time abroad Barton also offered "This rain isn't doing David Luiz's hair any favours... #wetdog."

Despite his fears for Luiz's mop Joey seemed content with what he'd seen wrapping up with "Chelsea just too strong in the end. Leeds put up a good fight for 60 mins. Good game."

After their let down in the Club World Cup final, Chelsea's forwards were clearly happy with the return to winning ways and maintaining another trophy prospect. Not one to beat around the bush, Victor Moses went with the fairly traditional "Great win for us and pleased to be back on the score sheet" tweet.

However the bilingual Juan Mata went and dropped the shocking revelation that he is yet to get his hands on the League Cup with tweets in both Spanish and English, confessing "A good victory to reach the CapitalOneCup semifinals! Winning this trophy it would be very special for me, I don't have it! #cfc @chelseafc."
