FOOTIE TWEETS: Ashes, preseason trips, holidays and transfers

Summer in Europe brings about many things, most notably holidays for players and offseason transfers.

It is also cricket season in the UK and nothing is bigger than the Ashes between England and Australia which kicked off on Wednesday.

Former Manchester United and Everton midfielder Phil Neville, a star cricketer in his youth, was getting into the spirit by wishing star batsman Kevin Pietersen all the best.

Whilst Neville's former United teammate Rio Ferdinand used Twitter for some harmless self-promotion.

Additionally, Premier League clubs take off to all corners of the glove for preseason trips during this time of year. Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany was eagerly anticipating the clubs preseason journey to South Africa.

Barcelona and Brazil star Daniel Alves was enjoying some offseason time with his children Dani and Victoria and actor girlfriend Thaissa Carvalho.

Schalke and USA midfielder Jermaine Jones was thrilled with the work done on his pimpin' wheels.

Everton winger Bryan Oviedo was delighted to welcome two new additions to the club.

Romelu Lukaku had a pleasant dining experience with some of his Chelsea teammates.

Former Norwich City loanee Kei Kamara, now back with Sporting Kansas City, was quick to give a little bit of weather advice to those back in England.

Reading midfielder Jem Karacan has been fairly busy recently, checking out the latest comedies from Vince Vaughan and Seth Rogen.

Barcelona's Gerard Deulofeu was showing plenty of excitement after joining Everton on loan.

Translation: "I'm really really happy and excited to meet this challenge!"

US star Jozy Altidore was over the moon after signing a four-year deal with Sunderland.

He then made an immediate impact, scoring in the preseason friendly against a local XI.

And our favourite Twitter contributor Joey Barton was at it again, suggesting he was one of very few loathed sports fans getting around these days following Andy Murray's victory at Wimbledon.
