Fluminense sporting director Paulo Angioni admits Real Madrid were close to signing Pedro Guilherme before his knee injury.
The 21-year-old striker is currently at Fluminense, who have 50% of the player's rights.
"I believe there was a plan in place for a possible Pedro sale," Angioni told LANCE!.
"It's obvious that the injury was an obstruction, in a big way. Not only in the transfer market, but also for the team, where we have lost an attacker of his size for a specific position. Moreover, it hindered the future deal. This setback forced us to look for another type of income, since the money for the transfer was, in theory, conditioned.
"It did not materialise due to this misfortune. Of course, it would have meant financial peace until the end of the year. If he had not been injured, I believe he would have been sold."
