Flu threatens to derail Perth Glory's opening game

Perth Glory will have to deal with a flu that is threatening to sweep through the playing group ahead of their A-League season opener.

Head coach Dave Mitchell has been grounded by the virus and has been quarantined away from the rest of the team in the hope that no players are affected before tonight's clash with North Queensland Fury.

The Glory will already be without three players (Victor Sikora, Andy Todd and Tommy Amphlett) due to injury with international transfers pending for Michael Baird and Josh Mitchell from their former club in Romania but assistant coach Ian Ferguson was confident that the team would be able to cover those absences.

"We're going in against the Fury missing five quality players, but I believe we've now got the depth to cover the losses," Ferguson said.
