Florentino tried to sign Totti, Maldini for Real Madrid

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez admits he tried to sign Roma captain Francesco Totti and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini during his previous reign in charge.

Asked for his view of Italian players, Perez replied: “I have always liked Totti, but it's very difficult to get footballers like him to leave their clubs.

“I also liked Maldini a lot. It would have been nice to see him at Real, but it wasn't possible.”

Expectations are understandably high at the Bernabéu this season and Perez is thinking big.

Asked to reveal what he dreams about, Perez replied: “The Champions League Final at the Bernabéu against Milan.”
