Fletcher set for Man Utd start against Chelsea

Darren Fletcher is set to get a start for Manchester United in today's Community Shield clash with Chelsea.

Fletcher is set to benefit from all the absences as, with Paul Scholes on the injured list, he is one of two players - Mikael Silvestre being the other - to be plucked out of the side that started at Doncaster for duty at Wembley.

"It is exciting to be part of this squad," he said.

"The manager obviously felt we struggled for numbers at the end of last season, so he has added some good, young quality players, which is great for the future of Manchester United.

"It is hard to tell how significant the Community Shield will be because the focus has always to be on the first Premier League game. But, of course you want to win it, just as you want to win every game."

After joining United as a schoolboy, Fletcher has been brought up in the same manner as illustrious predecessors such as Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

The Scot's first championship was a cause for celebration but there was no way he was going to spend his summer sitting back marveling at what has been achieved. That is just not the done thing at Manchester United.

"When you win a title at this club, you enjoy the celebration day and then you think about winning it again straightaway," he said.

"That is how quick the turnaround is.

"We have not spent the summer taking it for granted that we are the champions because we have to show the manager we have the hunger and determination to win it again.

"Ryan, Gary and Paul have been doing that for 10 years and it has been drummed into us that we all need the same attitude."
