Darren Fletcher insists the players are focussed on Manchester United winning the Premier League title, with or without breaking any records. From midway through their historic 1999 Treble-winning campaign, United embarked on a 29-match unbeaten run, beating the previous club record.
Victory over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday night left them one short of that mark, meaning it will be equalled if they avoid defeat against Aston Villa at Old Trafford next Tuesday.
But Fletcher is more impressed with the five-point gap United have put between themselves and nearest challengers Arsenal.
"The unbeaten record is not being spoken about," said the Scotland captain.
"Our main concern is winning the league.
"Not losing for so long does give us great confidence but ultimately we are trying to win the Premier League - that is all we are focused on.
"If that means losing a game, so be it."
