Darren Fletcher says Michael Owen's first goal for Manchester United last week against Wigan lifted everyone at the club.

The United midfielder told BBC Sport: "I think you see from the reaction from him, from the fans, from the players, from the bench and the staff, everyone was so pleased for him.

"He's came in, he's been a great lad, he's showed great enthusiasm, great determination and desire and he really wants to prove people wrong because it's a shame that people are doubting such a top-class striker and he's at Manchester United, a great club.

"He's going to get plenty of chances and hopefully that first goal kickstarts something and he'll score plenty more goals for us."
